Project scope

Gut renovation remodel of existing home w/additions (3,400 sq. ft.)

Our charge

What happens when a young family emigrates from England with modernist sensibilities and buys a Victorian colonial in historic Lexington? There was not the budget or desire to tear down the old home, although it did need to be gutted to upgrade the mechanical systems. Generally, we reused the original entry, living room, dining room and stair hall on the first floor, and the bedrooms, bathroom and hall on the second floor. The addition allowed for expanding the kitchen with a breakfast area, a family room, mudroom and garage at the first-floor level. A master bedroom suite was added at the second level with a bonus room over the garage. The massing and facade designs for the additions were designed with an eye towards modern design and the cladding for the renovated front part design to tie in with the new construction.
