Project scope

Complete remodel with additions, pool, pool house, and terraces (6,775 sq.ft.)

Our charge

Convert a bed and breakfast into a private residence. The family wanted a summer home that could comfortably accommodate extended family and friends. The existing structure consisted of a cut-up mid 19th century home with 1980s additions that was functioning as a nine-suite inn.

We studied the option of keeping and renovating the later additions along with the historic structure, but they were out of character with the original shingle-style home and limited the flexibility of design for the new program. Therefore we stripped away all except the original shell, which was completely remodeled to undo the bed and breakfast layout. Additions were designed to the rear, including an observation tower lighthouse with the pool and terraces to the south side. The new home flows seamlessly inside and out and provides the public spaces and owner's suite with spectacular views of the ocean.
