The client wanted a modern, open-plan home for entertaining and a fun environment in which to live and raise their two sons.
The large, wooded lot gave us ample freedom to site the home. I choose to place the home on the upper edge of a slight rise. This allowed for a portion of the basement to be above ground, which was then designed to contain the children's playroom with direct access out to a playing field. The living room has nice views out over this field and to the woods beyond. The plan is roughly cross shaped with each leg being one room wide and creating distinct outdoor spaces. The rooms receive ample and variable light and views.
